Greetings folks, apologies for not uploading any reviews for the last couple of weeks! I have been busy with uni work and have been preparing for my 6 months trip to the USA. I am leaving at the end of next week and am now taking a bit of time to write a couple of short reviews. Now I've seen some damn decent films lately including Zombieland and the hyped Where the Wild things Are. I will write reviews for them later! In the meantime, I watched a film a couple of days ago which has been stuck in my conscience for days now. John Singleton's classic Boyz N The Hood gave me a realistic, brutal and gritty look into the lives of growing adolescent boys in South Central Los Angeles. The place, famous for drugs, gangs and impending violence was honestly depicted in Singleton's film where hope and despair go hand in hand.

Overall Plotline:

The film is set in South Central LA and revolves around one protagonist Tre, played by Cuba Gooding Jr, his life, the lives of his friends and the community in which he resides. For him, being stopped on the road by a gun being pointed to his head is an average day. He watches his friends enter jail, exit jail, then proceed to do nothing to improve their conditions. His father, a responsible and educated man guides him as a child as he grows into a young man.

This film gave me such an insight into the lives and realistic conditions of South Central LA and the difficulties of growing up in that area. LA, synonymous with Hollywood and glamour is shattered through this film, as viewers get to see the other side of America, one filled with revenge, hatred and tension. Singleton's script is crawling with great dialogue and unnerving situations and events. The film builds into a hyperventilating climax, filling the audience with emotions from all walks of life.

I give this film 5 STARTS OUT OF 5.
