Harry Potter Has Feelings?!?!

Howdy all! I just watched the new Harry Potter film and like all others, I'm dedicating a review on this new film in the franchise. Now, although I'm a huge fan of the books, I have not always been as pleased by its cinematic translations especially during the first few. I think it might have been because of the terrible terrible acting from two out of the three child actors and the fact that the films often discarded so much detail the books had that nothing really made much sense and the focus were on all the wrong things. However, with that being said, I still loved the idea of being able to really truly experience the world of Harry Potter and to be able to then on, read the remainder books with a solid image of the characters, the world and the magic.

Now, this is going to be a short review, mostly just about how much I feel this movie is so different to all the other ones we've seen and less about what the movie's about because I'm sure most of you would've already read up on other reviews/imdb for that info.

The first and foremost thing to say about this Harry Potter film is that this one had HEART. Yes, heart. It had a soul and not just a soul that is there that we can appreciate, but a soul that really touched the audience (at least me) and made me connect with the characters on a much profound level. The acting was slightly more tolerable, especially on Harry's behalf, so that alone made a huge difference in my belief in their pains and hardships.

Now a lot of people's complaints have been about how the film lacked a climax. I do believe it is true...but only to an extent. I felt although there was no conventional climax, I still felt myself clenching my palms during various points of the film. For example, during the Quidditch match, those few times when Harry was following Malfoy, obviously the scene in the cave with Dumbledore and even those scenes where Harry revisits Slughorn's memories, they all built up tension well and really eradicated the need for a huge, nail biting climax.

I particularly enjoyed the way the film intertwined the love stories with the passing of times and would also often remind us of Malfoy and his unknown quests. I was impressed by where they placed each scene and the organisation of the scenes to cover the most important parts of the book and at the same time, not loose any of its detail. The way Luna Lovegood would pop up always made me laugh and that girl who played Ron's obsessed girlfriend was also quite a good insert. It balanced well.

The script in this film was much more laidback and witty compared to the other movies. It really had a human factor to it and I felt especially comfortable whenever Harry and Ron were together just because their friendships in real life really resonates in how comfortable they look on screen together as well.

Altogether, I felt this was a deserving film, filled with the human side of magic rather than the monsters and evil. It was also a great buildup to the final chapter of the story, which I'm sure will be very spectacular indeed.

I give this film 4 STARS OUT OF 5.
