Kick-ass, Kicked ass!

I hate to say this but Kickass, kicks ass! I went to see this with no expectations and with nothing to go by as I had not read the comics, this I think enhanced my enjoyment of it, as sometimes with films, if you have read the book the changes in the film can annoy you.
The plot is not the most original, but the way it is portrayed is completely unique. It has been compared to “The Dark Knight” and I can see why. They are both revolutionary in the super hero/comic book genre. Not for the plot but the style of each film was ground-breaking. In the case of Kickass it is that this is an action/comedy but it could be a comedy or an action film in its own right. The basic outline of the film is that a teenage boy, Dave Lizewski wonders why no one has ever tried to put on a costume and help people. So after purchasing a green wetsuit, he does exactly that.
My favourite part in the Film is when “Hit Girl” is attempting to save her dad “Big Daddy” and Kickass; she has just killed a number of henchmen and is attempting to kill the final henchmen. Here she uses a strobe light to put them off. This is shot in slow-motion and is very effective as you can see her slowly edge towards the henchmen. This part of the film shows that it is more than just a comedy.
The comedy in Kickass is a good balance of visual slapstick and more subtle jokes. The two worked well together and so there is something for everybody to laugh at. If I were to pick out my comedy highlight of the film it would be when we first see “Hit girl” who is an eleven year old starts swearing. This is completely unexpected and her language is probably the worst in the film.
I would definately recommend Kickass, if you are undecided about going to see it, I say just go. This year and perhaps ever, it has been my favourite comedy film. I laughed more in Kickass than any other film I have been to see and I have to say it again, Kickass, Kicked ass!
